THE ISLAND OF LAMPAS, REBORN ANEW! CITIZENS REJOICE AFTER HARD-EARNED VICTORY
The shores of Lampas were rife with combat earlier today as waves of creatures from the deep emerged at the call of 'The Mother', Kra'a. Citizens and armed forces alike banded together on the front lines, working alongside the navy and even tourists who all volunteered to protect the city. While others stood at the forefront, archers stood from high ground as makeshift banisters were built along the beach, with anything from fishing rods to frying pans being used to fight off the invasion. An early sense of victory soon led to panic as more and more monstrosities reappeared from the waters, crawling over the protective barrier constructed along the shoreline. While the fighting forces were slowly overwhelmed, remaining civilians and injured were quickly evacuated to the eastern shelter, eventually leading to a complete tactical retreat. The city had been overrun.
With the lands of Lampas no longer safe, select members of the Navy took the skies on newly constructed planes. A few brave souls remained in tireless battle. Operation 'The Last Resort' was now officially underway - The Mother Kra'a had made landfall.
In the midst of this terror, a radio broadcast interrupted ongoing reports: Makona, local oracle and known friend to Her Highness The Empress, was held hostage by members of The Faith. Their demand was for The Empress to surrender a life in exchange for The Mother's mercy - her child.
At the shelter, all gathered to hold hands and pray for their loved ones to survive the ordeal. Radio updates were all that remained for those in wait, providing minimal information on the status of the soldiers continuing the fight. Commodore Tater, Admiral Noct and former Admiral Pomodoro took The Mother head-on with suppressive fire from the skies while their friends and comrades wished them well from afar. Alarming reports sounded off amidst radio static. Explosions were set off from the distant shores.
At the height of the decisive battle, the people of Lampas were collectively drawn into a dream and brought into the Mother's Grotto.
It was here that she spoke to all, directly, for the first and final time, bidding the people goodbye.
When all awoke again, survivors found themselves rising from the waters of the Mother's Grotto, only to be greeted with another surprise. Greenery had sprung across the walls and the stone pavements, the old structures of Lampas seemingly overgrown with plants. The streets remained, now dry, and lush with vibrant flora. Life had returned to the city, old and new, carrying The Mother's final gift : The island itself.
Elandria, the goddess living within The Empress, her host, was now gone. Witness reports stated that Her Highness Beatrix had proposed to transfer her power into a nuclear weapon - the one used to defeat The Mother and force her to run. The Empress was left significantly weakened by this decision, though her future remains uncertain, along with the land that remains.
Citizens rejoiced as they returned to their streets, despite some dismay over ruined storefronts and collapsed buildings. Flowers, vines and trees filled concrete roads and high-rises, rewriting the architecture into a reminder of what it once was, and what it still could be. Meanwhile, others returned to the shocking news of casualties. A funeral send-off was held in multiple regions for those who fought valiantly, with some still lost at sea. Search parties have begun for those that remain missing. While Conrad and Crowley remain at large, people were seen rejoicing at the sight of their towers overrun with plants. "I never knew this place could look so beautiful! It's like one giant tree," one citizen commented, taking in the new sights.
With no true gods and no absolute rulers, the island of Lampas is returned to the people. What will remain of it's future, and of its citizens, is now for you to decide.
As we write the final edition of Lampas Daily Bulletin, we would like our final message to be this : There is hope yet. Thank you for reading!
